Anne in April

There are many exciting things happening in April. But one, perhaps, is a little more exciting given my roots. There are new book challenges that have started this month. I also have many exciting books to read this month (I don't think I'll half the reading done I'd like to this month but one can always hope...right?). The purpose of this entry is not to talk about all the books I have to read or all the book I've read and have yet to blog about, rather I want to draw everyone's attention to the plucky little red head from Prince Edward Island that has been a part of our lives for 100 years as of this month.

That little red head is of course Anne Shirly. Anne of Green Gables was published in April a mere one hundred years ago. There are many places that are probably celebrating this milestone, none more than the folks on Canada's smallest province. To see what's happening there are a number of websites dedicated to Anne turning 100. It's amazing to think that it's been 100 years ago that L.M. Montgomery created Anne and decided to share her with the world.

I tried to read as much as I could the last little while so my reading of Anne of Green Gables for The Canadian Book Challenge would coincide with this event, unfortunately it isn't going to happen. But I'm still looking forward to reading Anne, and see how it fares to my recollection of the CBC Anne of Green Gables I grew up watching. I also remember, fondly, my time on PEI and seeing the musical and Green Gables itself. I'm sure many Anne fans recall the TV version staring Megan Follows.

Regardless of how you have experienced Anne in the last hundred years take some time to reintroduce yourself to Anne. Or, experience Anne for the first time; you never know you may find a kindred spirit.
